Dolphins Make Roster Moves
March 2, 2004
The Miami Dolphins extended the contracts of defensive end Jason Taylor and kicker Olindo Mare. Both Taylor and Mare signed three-year extensions which run through the 2009 season. The club also re-signed safety Arturo Freeman to a two-year contract, and running back Leonard Henry and defensive tackle Dario Romero, both of whom were exclusive rights players, to one-year deals.
Also on Tuesday, the team tendered all four of its restricted free agents and its lone remaining exclusive rights player. Defensive end Adewale Ogunleye was tendered the maximum amount for a restricted free agent, which would require compensation of first and third-round draft choices in 2004 should Ogunleye sign an offer sheet with another team and the Dolphins choose not to match. Linebacker Morlon Greenwood (3rd round), running back Travis Minor (3rd round) and quarterback Sage Rosenfels (4th round) all were tendered at the original draft round compensation level. If they sign an offer sheet with another team and the Dolphins choose not to match, Miami would receive a draft pick in the original round in which that player was drafted, from the team that signs him. The Dolphins also tendered exclusive rights tackle Greg Jerman.
In addition, the Dolphins terminated the contracts of seven players and waived four more:
